1st Pediatric Cancer Workshop in Armenia

On May 14, 2014, Armenian Association of Hematology and Oncology with Yerevan State Medical University organized the 1st Pediatric Cancer Workshop in Armenia.

Outstanding scholars and physicians from outside – Dr. Sima Jeha from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (Memphis, TN, USA) and Dr. Raya Saab from the Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon (Beirut, Lebanon) co-chaired the workshop.

Dr. Samvel Danielyan, the President of the Armenian Association of Hematology and Oncology, presented the past, current state and future of the Armenian pediatric hematology and oncology.

After, Dr. Sima Jeha, with the example of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, showed the way of development of pediatric cancer care and also mentioned the role of St. Jude and its possible involvement in pediatric cancer care in developing world and in our country in particular.

The last speech gave Dr. Raya Saab, who showed the example of Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon and the history and ways of its development, and also, as a Scientific Director of Pediatric Oncology East & Mediterranean Group, presented the ways of involvement of Armenian pediatric oncology community in the group’s works.

After all the speeches, there was a very productive and open discussion on current problems of pediatric cancer care in Armenia and Dr. Jeha and Dr. Saab expressed their view of the development of pediatric cancer care in Armenia. It was agreed also to have such a meetings and workshops more frequently.
