Our History and Mission

The Armenian Association of Hematology and Oncology (AAHO) was established in September 2012 in Yerevan, Armenia. Its main purpose is the development of hematology and oncology, together with related fields of medicine and science, within Armenia.

AAHO brings together doctors, nurses, scientists, psychologists, public health professionals, and cancer survivors, drawing participation from Armenia and from the wider international community.

Since its founding in 2012, the Armenian Association of Hematology and Oncology has grown into a central hub for advancing cancer care and blood disorder research in Armenia. The organization brings together a diverse community of physicians, nurses, scientists, and allied health professionals, along with cancer survivors whose lived experiences enrich the association's perspective. By fostering collaboration across specialties and encouraging participation from the wider international medical community, AAHO works to raise the standard of care available to patients throughout the country. Education remains a cornerstone of the association's mission, with ongoing efforts to share current concepts in diagnosis, treatment, and clinical practice among both established practitioners and the next generation of specialists.

The association's leadership has played a pivotal role in shaping its direction and expanding its reach. Under the guidance of its founding president, who served from the earliest days of the organization, AAHO has pursued a steady path of professional development and scientific exchange. Members benefit from access to publications, conferences, and educational programs that reflect the latest thinking in hematology and oncology. These initiatives help bridge the gap between international research and local practice, ensuring that Armenian clinicians remain informed about emerging therapies, diagnostic tools, and survivorship care. The association also places strong emphasis on pediatric oncology, recognizing the unique needs of children and families facing cancer and blood disorders.

Beyond its clinical and scientific work, AAHO is deeply committed to the human side of cancer care. Survivorship programs, patient navigation efforts, and community outreach reflect the association's belief that compassionate support is as important as medical treatment. The organization celebrates the courage of pediatric survivors and works to create environments where patients, families, and caregivers feel heard and supported throughout their journey. By uniting doctors, researchers, and survivors under one shared purpose, the association strengthens the broader healthcare ecosystem in Armenia and contributes to a more hopeful future for all those affected by cancer and hematologic conditions.
